Mádl, Vodochodský, Peroutka: GALARD dressed the stars of KVIFF

Back to the news list

This year's film festival in Karlovy Vary was dominated by the film "Waves," whose director Jiří Mádl and leading actor Vojtěch Vodochodský were both dressed by us in our Prague salon. Actor and singer Milan Peroutka also made an impression in Karlovy Vary, as he too wore custom-made clothing from us. Check out how we tackled the outfits for the stars of the Czech cultural scene.

The festive opening calls for a perfectly fitting tuxedo

The opening and closing of the festival are among the most important social events of the season, and it is essential to adhere to the black tie dress code, meaning wearing a classic black tuxedo.

We tailored a tuxedo à la James Bond for Milan Peroutka, featuring a black single-breasted jacket with one button and a shawl lapel. We paired it with a tuxedo shirt with mother-of-pearl buttons on the placket. These are one of the few classic accessories for men, an elegant detail of the entire outfit, and they should always match the cufflinks.

Along with classic trousers with satin side stripes and patent leather shoes, a black silk bow tie is a must, and as an interesting twist on the traditional outfit, Milan opted for a brooch from the traditional Czech-German brand HALADA. On the red carpet, Milan was accompanied by his husband and stylist Dominik Roubíček.

We also tailored a tuxedo for actor Vojtěch Vodochodský, who was accompanied at the festival's opening by his enchanting partner and model Marie Danči. However, we added a twist to the classic look, as Vojtěch wore a double-breasted tuxedo jacket with wide peaked lapels and trousers in a looser fit.

The tuxedo was made from Italian fabric by Lanificio Zignone, 100% wool of lighter weight, ideal for warm July weather. The fabric features a classic barathea weave that creates a fine texture. The fabric Moonlight, which we used to make the tuxedo shirt, also showcases a weave reminiscent of small diamonds. Both fabrics create an interesting detail that perfectly complements the necessary tuxedo accessories - silk bow tie, buttons on the placket and cuffs, white handkerchief, and Barker patent leather shoes.

The festive opening was also attended by host Libor Bouček, who wore a tuxedo with a single-breasted jacket. The jacket stands out primarily for its fabric selection, which features a very subtle pattern, giving the whole outfit an elegant finish.

At the premiere of the film hit, we drew inspiration from the fashion of the 60s

The film "Waves" thrilled audiences at the festival and continues to receive positive responses now that it has been released in Czech cinemas. For the glamorous premiere, we dressed the most important men of the production - director Jiří Mádl and leading actor Vojtěch Vodochodský.

Jiří Mádl enjoyed the massive standing ovation in a custom suit inspired by the 60s era in which the film's story takes place. At that time, the iconic three-button jackets were worn, and that’s exactly what we made for Jiří. The suit, made from lightweight Italian wool material, features a bold brown check pattern on a turquoise background, providing maximum comfort in the warm July days and under the glare of the spotlight. We complemented the suit with a light turquoise custom shirt, a chocolate-colored knitted tie, and classic hand-dyed brown oxford shoes by Barker.

Vojtěch Vodochodský wore a brown corduroy suit to the premiere, stepping straight into the 60s. It’s quite possible that his original owner wore it during that era as the suit is second-hand and was gifted to Vojtěch by his partner, who saw the hidden fashion potential in it.

We first checked the large and ill-fitting garment, and since we found no defects, we decided to alter it in our workshop. This resulted in a stylish outfit in the '60s style, complemented with a royal blue elegant flower made in the Czech Republic. Vojtěch paired it with classic black loafers, resulting in an outfit that perfectly represents sustainability and local fashion.

And if you're surprised by the material choice - that is, brown corduroy - don't be. Contrary to popular belief, corduroy is an ideal fabric for year-round wear, as evidenced by James Bond in the iconic sandy summer corduroy suit in the film "No Time to Die."

The party at the Mill Colonnade allows for creative outfits

Milan Peroutka also attended the legendary UniCredit bank party at the Mill Colonnade. The invitation requires a cocktail dress code, which is not as formal as black tie but not entirely casual either.

For Milan, we devised a completely monochromatic outfit, tailoring the suit, shirt, and tie from the same Italian wool fabric in a striking blue color. The jacket was designed as double-breasted with only one button for a more relaxed feel. The ensemble was completed with dark brown loafers and a silk flower in the lapel.

Heavenly blue is also the color of this summer, and it not only flatters Milan but makes him look divine.
